Après un petit moment en période bêta de la version 5.25, Nullsoft a tout simplement décidé de changer de branche (vu les changements effectués) et de sortir Winamp 5.3.

Avec les habituels corrections de bugs, la version 5.3 apporte le support de l'Unicode, des fichiers audio 24bits et de l'auto réglage du son de vos musiques pour ne pas êtres surpris par une musique trop forte et une suivante trop faible.
Winamp 5.3 inaugure le Winamp Dashboard, une sorte de page d'actualité concernant Winamp et le Winamp Remote, service sur abonnement et installation d'un logiciel qui vous permettra d'écouter les fichiers sur votre PC depuis n'importe quel navigateur internet. Ces deux nouvelles fonctions sont disponibles en version bêta actuellement.
