Question :

Can I mix PC700 and PC800 in one channel? Or should I use PC700 in ChA and PC800 in ChB?

Answer :

PC700 will be downgraded to PC600 due to 850 chipset's limitation (MCH supports RDRAM at either 300 or 400MHz only while the host is clocked at 100MHz). Mixing PC600 and PC800 RIMMs in the same channel will result in the downgrade of PC800 RIMM to PC600. RIMMs put in ChA and ChB must be of the same speed. If there are 2 pcs. of PC800 and 2 pcs. of PC600 RIMMs, they have to be installed like the 1st configuration below otherwise the system cannot even boot up because RIMMs put on ChA and ChB are not of the same speed.

Configuration 1:
Channel RIMM1+RIMM2 Speed in operation
ChA PC800+PC600 PC600
ChB PC800+PC600 PC600

Configuration 2:
Channel RIMM1+RIMM2 Speed in operation
ChA PC800+PC800 not working
ChB PC600+PC600 not working
