Répertoire Windows\installer

Bonjour,
qui pourrait me dire si je puis en toute tranquilité supprimer le répertoire
c:\windows\installer ,sous Xp Pro, car il occupe 6Go ce qui me parait énorme
A quoi sert-il ?
